    Hello Jack,

    I have many health problems which regular doctors could not diagnose or help with. I ended up seeing naturopathic doctors who helped me immensely. One of them ordered blood tests that showed I am at increased risk of dementia (this was just an aside from the issues I was there for). With that knowledge, I am determined to prevent it. I have had many other conditions caused by nutrient deficiency so I know I  have to be careful about that. I see B1 is listed as one of those vitamins we need to prevent dementia. I just found that another problem I have can be caused by B1 deficiency so I am going to get some tonight!

    I have learned that most all conditions can be prevented or treated with the proper nutrients. For example, heart disease is often caused by a lack of magnesium or from taking too much calcium without enough magnesium to balance it out. Calcium allows muscles including the heart to contract and magnesium allows them to relax. In the U.S. people are often told to take calcium for their bones but they don’t always get extra magnesium to balance out the calcium. With too little magnesium you can get high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries and heart arrhythmia. My Dad was able to stop taking nitroglycerine for his heart when he took magnesium at my urging. My husband and I both had greatly improved blood pressure when we took magnesium.  

    That is just one example of so many where I  have seen first hand that vitamins and minerals are crucial for health but poorly understood.     Thank you for this advice.
    I am almost 70 and do suffer from a bit of memory loss.
    Can remember what I did 50 years ago but cannot remember last week. It is a bit of a blur.
    With this in mind, I read and found this article very informative.
    I was walking about 4 kilometers a day until 4 months ago when medical issues stopped me doing so and now only walk about 100 meters without getting angina. The doctors are sorting this out at present.
    I have been healthily for some time now and have my diabetes under control.
    All the things I did throughout my life are coming back to haunt me.
