  1. This is a great topic and many of your suggestions are overlooked. I know both sides of the coin, healthy weight training, and couch potato. I really like how you included happiness and sleep as health benefits. I think these things get skipped over because they are intangible so people have a hard time measuring it. 

    Two other great points you brought up were water consumption and smoking (ugh). Sometimes we forget to drink water, so I make it a point to keep water on-hand. This really helps me to remember to drink it regularly. And as far as cigarettes, well I’m just happy that I never fell under that temptation.

     The actual fact however is that one experiences are the facts that people prefer the remedial approach which often times comes in late.

Take for instance the oxygen we breathe, they are free but when we have one health issue or the other especially having difficult to breathe, we pay to receive oxygen. The importance of living a healthy lifestyle cannot be overemphasized.

    Good thing is that once we cultivate the habit of healthy lifestyle by exercising, eating healthy food, getting screened from time to time and having quality time with our loved ones as well as having enough sleep, we not only save money from unnecessary sickness and illnesses, but we also have our peace of mind.

Hello, Jack.   I agree with you that healthy living is important for longevity and happiness.   There are so many diseases that are related to unhealthy habits.   I’ve never been a smoker, or drinker either for that matter, but members of my wife’s family are and I see the stress and poorer quality of life some of them have.   It’s too bad that there aren’t more “healthy” fast-food restaurants.   The ones that are successful seem to contribute to obesity.  

    Personally, I can agree on the importance of drinking water.   I was pretty much addicted to diet soft drinks for most of my adult life, but lately have given them up and am drinking more water.   I’m discovering that my weight is going down and my “gut” is shrinking too.   I’m an avid cyclist and replacing diet sodas with water has improved my stamina.   I enjoy my rides more.   Great info in your post.  Keep up the good work.

  9. Yeah the best things in life are free. Exercising is free, spending quality time with friends and family is free. If we have a garden or an orchard, eating fresh vegetables and fruits will be free. 

    In truth, we spend so much, indulging ourselves in foods and activities that destroy us. But, if we are keen to go the natural way, the free way, we would have better results to boast of.

  10. I like this. We all need to take the issue of  our health very  seriously. Health remains the most important asset anyone can claim. The millions in the accounts are worthless without good health to enjoy them. You have mentioned several things which I agree with. However, on the aspect of watching your sleep, how many hours of sleep is ideal? This is the same question I asked a neurosurgeon friend of mine, and his answer was this depends on age. As one age, the number ideal decreases. Sleep is good no doubt,  but sleeping for 8 hours or 4 hours might not make any difference especially for someone above the age of 60. Well, this is my own  opinion. What do you think?
