1. Osteoarthritis
What is osteoarthritis?
This is the most common form of arthritis. Therefore, many people suffer from the condition more than any other form. It comes about when your joints are overworked. Medics commonly refer to it as “wear and tear”.
Age is the main cause of osteoarthritis.
Other possible causes of the condition are injuries or obesity. These agents exert extra stress on the joints. But can you find a solution to back pain?
Osteoarthritis affects mostly the spine, hips, feet, and knees. These are joints that bear much of your weight.
The disease often comes on gradually. It can take months or years to feel the impact of the weight on these areas.
As a result, the affected joint will start to hurt. If left untreated, it may result in other kinds of arthritis.
What happens?
After many years, you will start losing your body’s ability to absorb shock. The structures that act as shock absorbers are called cartilages. This is a slippery tissue that covers the end of bones. With time, it gradually breaks down.
Especially if you are overweight, this condition may arise earlier than in other people. As a result of the extra pounds, they get more pressure on the cartilage. As these tissues squeeze against each other, they get damaged and wear away. So there is a reduction of the tissues that need to cushion the joints.
You will experience pain when you involve the affected joints in movement. Due to the damages on the cartilages. Also, you may hear a grating sound. This happens when the already-roughened cartilage rubs against each other in the joints.
Further, you may get painful bumps or spurs mostly on the ends of the bones. Commonly seen on the fingers and feet. In some patients, the joint lining can get inflamed.
The symptoms of osteoarthritis depend on the affected joint.
Symptoms
Deep, aching pain
Osteoarthritis can make it challenging for you to carry out rather normal activities. It depends on the kind of joint affected. For instance, it can be difficult to bend over, comb hair, climb stairs, dress, squatting among other activities.
Pain walking
Morning joint stiffness that may last up to 30 minutes.
Stiffness after resting
The joints may feel;
Swollen and harder to move
Unable to move
Warm to the touch
2. Rheumatoid Arthritis
It is commonly referred to as RA. This is an autoimmune disorder of the joints. Meaning, that your immunity attacks the normal healthy tissues of the joints.
An attack on the cartilage results in the inflammation of the affected joint. In return resulting in severe joint damage in the event of delayed medication.
Though on rare occasions, patients with rheumatoid arthritis may develop a lump on the skin. These are called rheumatoid nodules. The nodules form over the affected joints. That is the joints that receive much pressure from your body weight. Knuckles, elbows, or heels are the most affected regions.
What happens?
The exact cause of RA is unknown. However, some experts associate the onset of the disease with a ” confused immune system”. They further explain that immunity gets confused after an infection. Either viral or bacterial. In the process, the immunity may start attacking the healthy cells of the cartilage. If left uncontrolled, the attack can spread across the body.
Scientists relate two body chemicals to the entire scenario. These chemicals are integral to the inflammation process. They include; tumor necrosis factor (FNT) and interleukin-1. These hormones trigger the entire immune system to launch an attack.
Rheumatoid arthritis may have gradual or sudden onset of symptoms. And these symptoms are more severe than with osteoarthritis. The most common ones are:
Pain, Swelling in the hands, elbows, knees, shoulders, haw, ankles, neck, wrist, and feet. This condition affects multiple joints in many cases.
More than one swollen joint. Majorly the small joints in the feet, hands, and wrists.
Has a symmetrical pattern of attack. When the left hand is swollen and painful, the other one too is affected.

Morning stiffness may last for hours. In severe cases, it may take most of the day.
Low appetite
Loss of weight
Feel fatigued
Diagnosis of the condition is done in the lab by testing blood for RA.
3. Psoriatic Arthritis
This is a combination of two separate diseases. The patient may be having a condition of skin inflammation called Psoriasis. And develop a joint disease called arthritis.
Psoriasis is characterized by causing raised, patchy, and red areas of inflamed skin with scales. It affects either the tips of the knees navel, scalp, elbows, and skin.
About 30% of people with psoriasis develop arthritis.
In this case, skin arthritis usually shows first. Followed by arthritis.
Symptoms
Swelling of the fingers and toes
A few joints are affected
4. Gout
This is a build-up of uric acid crystals in a joint. Mostly the big toe or any other part of the foot.
Gout causes a sudden, sharp pain in the foot after a night of drinking. Also, stress, drugs, and other illnesses can cause the onset of the condition.

Rachel
Thank you for sharing this fantastic article. Unfortunately for me, my family on my Mother’s side all suffer from some sort of joint pain and arthritis in some form or another. In recent years, I’ve felt myself starting to have pangs in my knuckles, elbows, hips, and knees. I am not opposed to taking medication, I just don’t want to rely too heavily on it. I will look into these natural supplements, as I prefer natural remedies as a first course of action against any pain or discomfort before resorting to medication.
