According to recent studies on gastroenterology, ulcers can happen anywhere in the inner lining of the alimentary canal. That is why you hear terms like stomach ulcers, mouth ulcers, and throat ulcers. Surprisingly, there is no specific diet that is recommended for ulcer patients.

Why? Because some foods may trigger a flare-up in some patients but have no impact on other patients with the same condition. Therefore, food choices do not cause stomach ulcers instead, they worsen the condition.

However lately, there are recommendations on the diet that may initiate faster recovery from ulcers. The research is based on

the fact that some foods contain elements that help fight against the bacteria Helicobacter pylori. This is the major causative agent of ulcers.

Apart from that, long-term use of over-the-counter nonsteroidal medications can cause ulcers. A perfect example of medication includes ibuprofen and aspirin.

Also, strengthened periods of stress act as a risk factor for ulcers. Stress causes the production of intestinal hormones that initiate the production of gastric juice and hydrochloric acid. The acid is responsible for corroding the walls in case there is no food substrate to be digested. Therefore, the leaking of these juices in your stomach can lead to the onset of ulcers.

Drinking. Alcohol has negative impacts on your body especially when taken regularly and in large quantities. Drinking alcohol leads to the production of digestive enzymes. These juices end up damaging the stomach walls as there is no food substance to be digested

Foods To Avoid When You Have Stomach Ulcers

In most cases, people with ulcers tend to have acid reflux too. Also, in some people, there are specific foods that tend to relax the lower parts of the esophagus. This region is clinically called the lower esophageal sphincter or LES. Once you have a relaxed LES it becomes easier for acid to spill into the esophagus. As a result leading to pain, indigestion, and heartburn.

Here is a list of foods that may worsen acid reflux:
Chocolate
Alcohol
Coffee
Acidic foods ie citrus fruits and tomatoes
Caffeine

Ulcer Treatments

There are different ways of curing ulcers. Among them include lifestyle adjustments, going the supplemental way, or going for antibiotic medications.

– Lifestyle adjustments

Drinking alcohol can trigger the onset of ulcers, so what do you need to do? Avoid alcohol. Or if it is a must then drink it considerably. Remember, stress triggers the release of digestive juices. These juices in return start corroding the stomach linings. For that matter, learning to control your depression or anxiety will keep you safe from ulcer flare-ups.

A perfect diet is another lifestyle plan to protect yourself from ulcers. As earlier exhibited, some foods may accelerate the healing process of ulcers. However, other foods increase the acidic pH in the stomach leading to ulcers. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid the intake of foods that may trigger ulcer flare-ups.

– Use of antibiotics

You have learned that ulcer is mostly caused by the bacteria H. Pylori. This means an antibiotic prescription will help eliminate the pathogen from the digestive tract. Unfortunately, this plan for ulcer treatment may lead to the elimination of other healthy bacteria in the stomach. For that reason, this medication should be accompanied by a probiotic supplement.

Thankfully ulcers are not something that I am stricken with, however, I do have family members that do suffer from them.  This is a lot of very good information here, and I will share this site with them. I know that they will get out of it. For me, the list of antioxidant foods is definitely something that I will use. I can definitely use more blueberries in my diet.

This is an interesting read.  I would never have guessed that the foods here were beneficial for healing ulcers.  I would have thought that raw vegetables and fermented foods stirred up stomach juice and irritated the ulcer. Apparently, it pays to educate yourself!  Do the supplements you recommend protect the stomach from getting ulcers or are they just used after one occurs?
