Sugary drinks have a lot of carbs that diabetes patients don’t need. Lemonade and sweetened tea are very potent in carbs. They are full of fructose which causes diabetes and insulin resistance.

4. Sickle cell

Sickle cell is a type of blood disorder that messes with hemoglobin performance. Hemoglobin carries oxygen through the blood but when affected the blood will get little or no supply of oxygen in the body. Instead of the red blood cell developing properly into a circular shape, it grows into a crescent-like shape.

The symptoms of sickle cell can always be seen in the early childhood stages. Some of the known visible syndromes include anemia, periodic pain episodes, and repeated infections. Most of the mentioned above symptoms have individual-based reactions. The symptoms can be alarming to some while they may not be a cause for action in others.

It is advisable to regularly monitor your vitamin D levels whenever you visit a doctor. Sickle cell patients can get vitamin D from eggs, fortified milk, and the sun. You can also opt for vitamin D supplements to help restore the body levels, in a short period.

Conclusion: Are You in Charge of Your Ongoing Physical Condition?

Food is essential to our bodies. The type and quantity consumed affect how our body functions. However, it is important to note that despite the food being a necessity, if not taken correctly, it may lead to more complications, eg, obesity.

It is therefore essential to be very selective when it comes to whatever you drink or eat. To get the desired results, it is advisable to always exercise as part of your daily routine. Regular exercise helps in improving the metabolic rate and can help in preventing the occurrence or development of certain conditions. Moreover, what matters is the nutrient contained in the food, rather than the amount consumed. You should, therefore, strive to take the right amount of food, in the required proportions to achieve desired results.

You are so right that health is more than physical well being of a person. What goes on in the head can have as much of an effect on people as the other ailments that you describe and make suggestions about. The mind can be a miracle worker in a lot of cases.

Still, having said that, you do need to also take care of the physical part of the equation as well. Getting enough and the proper exercise is important and beneficial in so many ways. It can lift your spirits (back to that mind thing) and also give you more stamina as you go through the day’s activities.

I like that for each of the main causes of death these days you offer concrete suggestions as to what foods to add to the diet and other tips that will help you fend off the ailment. I notice there are a lot of overlapping recommendations and this makes sense to me.

It really comes down to getting regular exercise for the times needed and also patterning your diet and habits around the foods that will provide you the protection you need from ailments of all kinds, and especially for those that will take you out or make you miserable.

Lots of good advice here and an enjoyable read for me. I consider myself to have lived a fairly healthy lifestyle, with some notable exceptions that do raise the risks I have for coming down with one or more of the maladies you have covered. It really is like how I have lived most of my life…

Calculated risk is the way I would phrase the lifestyle I have led to now. In my younger days, I took more risk, and in these older days, fewer. I may be paying the price in some ways for the riskier behavior in the early days, but I compare myself to my peers, and I still am above the 50th percentile (hopefully).

Thanks for this post, another enjoyable and informative read that is chock full of actionable health tips to explain how you are in charge of your own health. I could not agree more, these tips and the advice will work if practiced faithfully, and hopefully, reader’s who are younger than me will pay attention and take action!

I am an advocate of healthy eating and frequent exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Health is wealth, as a sick person cannot even think of earning. Many people are physically healthy but emotionally and mentally ill. This shows on the rate of terror acts in the world today.

As a race, humanity needs to start paying more attention to mental and emotional health, and not just physical health.

    Thanks for sharing, regards

  8. Matiss

I really appreciate you putting in a serious effort to make this list. These definitely are some of the most often encounterable chronic diseases, thus, I bet this will be of great benefit to many people. But what’s more, I hope they stick to this. It’s not just enough knowing what you should eat. You must actually implement  it, in other words, consume it.

On that same note, I guess needless to say that it’s probably way easier to prevent any of these conditions than combat them when they are already in place and messing with your health greatly. In that sense, if it’s too hard to remember specific guidelines, following a simple rule of no processed food only raw and fresh should help to make a difference.

Either way, the case of yours, I hope you people get it under control by all means necessary. Cause there truly are nothing more valuable than your health.

    Cheers, Carpe minutam,

    Matiss
