Health Nutrition Article: “4 Tips For Your Better Health For Today”

Why Proper Diet And Exercise Is The Answer

Good health is the key to living a healthy and happy life. Without it, our bodies become susceptible to attacks by diseases. This, in turn, hinders our ability to function and may cause pain and distress.

The state of your health is largely influenced by your lifestyle. Adopting healthy dietary and exercise routines is the best way to boost your health.

Benefits of Exercise and Health-Conscious Diets

  • – Reduces Stress and Improves Your Mood

The rigors of everyday life can be mentally exhausting and stressful. If you’ve had a rough day in the office, one session in the gym is what you need.

As you exercise, the concentrations of norepinephrine in your brain will increase. This is the chemical that moderates how your brain responds to stress. As a result, your stress levels will reduce. Your ability to deal with mental tension will also improve.

Mood plays a huge role in how effectively we can interact with others, and also improves our productivity. Moreover, the foods we consume affect our mood. For instance, foods rich in iron, omega-3 fatty acids, and carbohydrates can impact your mood positively.

 – Improved Cognitive Abilities

The results from studies conducted on mice and human subjects showed that exercise boosts neurogenesis, which is a process through which new brain cells are formed.
Moreover, intense workouts also stimulate the release of BDNF in the body. This protein improves learning ability and helps in decision-making.

When the body is low in glucose, remaining focused on a task is difficult. Eating fruits and vegetables helps keep your mind healthy. On the other hand, avoid taking foods rich in cholesterol and fat, as they cause the buildup of plaque in brain vessels. Plaque damages brain tissue and increase the risk of stroke.

– Reduces the Risk of Chronic Diseases

The primary cause of chronic diseases is inadequate physical activity. As you exercise, your blood pressure and fat levels will decrease. Physical activity leads to better body composition, improved cardiovascular fitness, and insulin sensitivity.

A report by the Centers for Disease Control showed an increased number of young people with chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. This trend is largely attributed to weight gain and unhealthy eating habits. It is also important to train children to embrace healthier diets.

– Slowed Down Ageing Process

As we age, our cognitive abilities reduce. Diseases such as Alzheimer’s destroy brain cells, causing the brain to shrink and lose the ability to perform certain functions. This cognitive degeneration begins gradually at the age of 45.

Exercising regularly, especially between the ages of 25 and 45, slows down this process. This is because chemicals that prevent degeneration of the hippocampus are released during workouts. The hippocampus plays a significant role in memory and learning.

Wrinkling and stretching of the skin is another effect of growing older. Eating foods rich in minerals and vitamins is good for the skin. For instance, vitamin C helps build collagen, which is known to slow the aging process. Moreover, being an antioxidant, it promotes the regeneration of skin cells. Good examples of foods rich in vitamins and antioxidants are tomatoes, berries, fish, and nuts.

– Increased Energy Levels

Reports of daily fatigue are normal. It may result from exhaustion or conditions such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). By exercising regularly, you will significantly boost your energy levels.

In fact, a study conducted on 36 healthy people who reported persistent fatigue indicated that six weeks of regular exercise reduces feelings of fatigue.

In comparison with other treatments such as passive therapies like relaxation or stretching, exercise is more effective at combating CFS. Moreover, regular exercise can increase the energy levels of people with progressive illnesses like multiple sclerosis, cancer, and HIV/AIDS.

Notably, your body is fuelled by the foods you consume. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are the body’s primary source of energy. Starchy vegetables and whole-grain bread are the best for getting prolonged energy. Drinking water is also essential as it transports nutrients within your body.

– Improved Immunity

The immune system is your body’s protection against disease. Deficiencies in immune systems are primarily caused by malnutrition. For your immune system to give you maximum protection, you must eat a well-balanced diet.

Ensure that meals come with sufficient amounts of minerals and vitamins. A well-balanced diet should include vegetables, fruits, and low-fat foods.

– Improved Sex Life

Exercise improves blood circulation, flexibility, and strength. These are all factors that play a role in your sexual performance. In addition, your sex drive will also increase. As a result, you will enjoy better sex more frequently.

What you eat also affects your sex life. Alcohol, fried foods, processed foods, and overeating are known to affect the sexual health of men negatively. To improve sexual performance, try increasing your fruit and vegetable consumption.

For instance, watermelon has high levels of phytonutrients known as citrulline. Citrulline is always converted into an amino acid called arginine when consumed. Arginine boosts the levels of nitric oxide in the body. This helps blood vessels to relax, much like Viagra. Legumes, garlic, and onions are also rich in citrulline.

    Jack,

I thoroughly enjoyed your article, especially since my niche is workouts at home. A life long fitness advocate, amateur athlete, and weight trainer, I am drawn to such information.

It is interesting that your emphasis seems to be more on nutrition and supplements, while mine is more on physical workouts. Your insights have been quite helpful. Happily, it seems that a health niche is an infinite source of subject matter.

At age 77, I initially thought about targeting seniors only in my blogs. I decided not to since I see many people every day half my age and half yours who could benefit from your information and mine. As George Bernard Shaw said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing”. Maybe he was speaking of workouts, but my first thought was that he was speaking of sex.

I have learned a lot from reading your article and would like to keep up with your further posts. I see fitness as a “three-legged stool” – resistance exercise, cardio exercise, and nutrition. I am personally weakest in the third leg.

Your topic and presentation are both excellent.

This is a great article on why good nutrition and exercise is so important for our health. Recently I started my own fitness training program to develop more badminton skills, but I also noticed that there are many side effects that I experienced as you mentioned in this post. Having done this training program for about a week now,  I noticed that my skin was smoother, I was happier every day, and way more energetic. It is certainly as you say. One thing I do need to work on is eating better as well. Your mention of what Vitamin C can do for our bodies is very intriguing. I will look to add more fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C so I can further enhance my training. Thanks for this post!

    Hi Jack,

That’s quite an informative post. I didn’t know that the foods I take could have an effect on my mood. Sometimes I feel good, but most times I’ve been stressed out. The pressure at work, home, social life- including meeting community expectations has not been easy.

I also had not known that exercise affects mood and therefore interactions with others. However, I’ve noted that whenever I do small exercises with my 2 young boys we laugh and enjoy it so much that I forget my troubles. So I indeed support your view.

I recently read that walking on grass barefoot helps reduce stress by 62%. In your research on stress management have you found this factual?
